Get to know their story!

It all started at Granite Park. Chuy and Sydnie met playing soccer under the lights. She made an impression on Chuy as soon as he saw her with her skills on the field and her loving, fun nature off the field. Chuy persisted by inviting himself for post-game tacos and house get-togethers. Sydnie played it cool, maybe too cool because at one point she thought she had been friend-zoned. But Chuy wanted to hang out all the time. From trying new and unexpected foods, to watching Star Wars and Marvel movies they could not get enough of each other. The days were too short, and the hours apart felt like days.

On May 21, 2019, Chuy officially asked Sydnie to be his girlfriend with a bouquet and guitar serenade. Four months later they went on their very first vacation together and visited Thailand. It was a series of misfortunate events with a passport debacle, missed flights, lost baggage, an ER visit, and concerns they would never make it home. Sydnie's family knew that Chuy was the one because she was still giving Chuy ojitos and laughing at his corny jokes. For Chuy despite all the mishaps, he still wanted to take adventurous trips with her.

Fast forward to June 2021, when they had been camping for four days at Sequoia National Park. The days consisted of them hanging with Chuy's cousins, playing with Chuy's niece and nephew, and sneaking away for some alone time. On their way home Sydnie was ready for a shower. Chuy was trying to figure out where on the mountain he should stop and pop the big question. When he pulled out into a lookout Sydnie was tired, confused, and in need of a warm bath. Chuy decided this was the perfect moment because of the mesmerizing lookout spot and because it would be unexpected. After several interruptions, Chuy finally started to kneel, but never made it because Sydnie was too excited and didn't let him finish asking the question. To this day, she also technically has not said yes yet.
